100 MLM leads per week… Really?

oldtimebatter I’ve read advertisements claiming to promise an abundance of MLM network marketing leads.  The problem that I have with that is “what will you do with 100’s of leads in that amount of time?”

It sounds like batting practice for heavy hitters to me.

People are people, not a number.  They are mothers, daughters, fathers, mothers,  uncles, aunts, sisters or brothers to someone that loves them. They have dreams and desires.  So I wonder in the back of my mind when I see the ads for products claiming to provide an exaggerated amount of leads “what are these people going to do these poor souls?”.

Are they a number or a sale?  Most people need mentoring and time spent.  I personally can’t handle more than 2 new relationships a week.  People need help calling their clients.  They need help with self development, learning to get highly targeted leads, leadership and team leading.

People need YOU to know their spouses names, how many children they have and what they love.  How can any of this be accomplished with 100 leads a week?  Truth be told, if you are focused on training a downline you need to become a mentor with a servants heart, not a heavy hitter that flies through the numbers.  I don’t know… maybe I could use 100 leads per week if I were only interested in selling them something… but if I am selling them something when can I retire?  Probably never.  If I train and mentor others and treat network marketing as a teaching and mentoring business then I COULD retire.  That’s the magic of residual income and a strong downline I guess!

Are you a Coach OR really a Mentor?

litehousMany people feel like they are lost at sea with no guiding light.  I know I had felt that way.  My up-line didn’t have the answers to give me. I remember how I grew tired and frustrated of trying to make the network marketing thing work for me.

Success MUST leave footprints in the sand that you can follow.  If you can’t follow the footprints, you must be on the wrong beach.

Many people cannot see those footprints of success in their sponsors business.  That’s why they download my ebook “Success in 10 Steps”.  When people REALLY have clear steps to follow they have no reason to be looking for more information because they would have everything that they need to be successful.

The sad truth is that many people cannot say that they have that.  They might have advice or things that they are testing….but no real proven results.

Previously it wasn’t my sponsors fault for not leading the way because no one was leading her or giving her the answers either.  It was a classic case of the blind leading the blind!

You need to become a mentor with a servants heart in order to succeed.  You need to have tracks on the beach to follow.  Tracks like “how to call clients, how to get people to approach you about your business, how to advertise and market, how to brand themselves easily, how to mentor, duplicate etc”

It needs to be proven advice.   Do the people telling you to do it get results doing the same thing?  If they do then you will be able to leave your tracks on the beach for others to follow! Your people will duplicate and you will have residual income!

When others look to you they won’t get philosophy.  They’d get proven results.  “Do this and you will get that”.  This is what people are looking for, they just want a guiding light that illuminates the beach so that they can follow in your footprints.

What’s the Difference between a Coach and a Mentor?

Coach – someone that motivates, directs and cheers you on. They TELL you how to do it.

Mentor- an experienced and trusted advisor, a person in a company who trains or counsels new employees or students.  They SHOW you how to do it.

A mentor has tracks to follow.  A coach can tell you about the tracks and what they are supposed to look like but they themselves are not doing it.  I know several people teaching network marketing, but are they DOING it?  Are they mentoring a down-line or simply telling everyone else HOW to do it?

snake900 People out of 1000 do not like to be sold.  Why are there so many people teaching sales skills for Network Marketing?  I have a sales background and in the past have had to use some methods that I was very uncomfortable with in order to make a paycheck in previous jobs.  I had to be a snake!

Things are different for me today.  I have some pretty pleasing success in the vending industry, it’s what I do here in Texas.  I own a nice sized company.  So when I started building a network marketing business it was because I WANTED to, not because I HAD to.  Therefore I have been able to step back and get away from those sales tactics.

I have learned that you should “lead with benefits”.  Lead with benefits, benefits benefits!  Don’t develop a sales funnel that ends up in a high-pressure game!  You might disagree but I am doing really well without it.  If you give people enough benefits and reasons to join you they will APPROACH you!

I’ve learned to NEVER EVER close someone. Instead, provide enough reasons for them to close themselves!  Wow is that a different approach!  If you are a direct sales guru you will probably be disgusted with me but it’s the truth.  If you have to close them once you will have to close them every month to keep building their business and do any work!  Critics may want to argue but for me the proof has been in the pudding!

If you want true duplication and not just a one time sale then you need to let people sell themselves.  When they sell themselves they will be less likely to leave you.  You need to use high pressure sales tactics when you do not offer enough benefits benefits benefits!

Will your down-line stand the test of time?

hourglass Build it once, build it big…. and build it to pay your childrens children.  That’s what network marketing is all about right?

That’s the dream that most people in MLM are chasing.  My mentor Michael Dlouhy has helped countless people to learn how to avoid losing.  If you want to realize your dream then you need to have “high retention” in your organization. People need to stick.   If you do some things correctly you will have friends for life.  Friends for life means income for life!  Here is an excerpt from Michael’s free book “Success in 10 Steps”:

“Heart decisions run deeper and last longer than Head decisions.  Direct Marketing relationships based on money & product disappear when a competitor upgrades product or lowers price.

But Network Marketing habits based on higher motivations & emotional connections are hard to break…  … If you’ve started to build your web of genuine relationships, and you’ve treated people right … then if something happens to ruin a business, your people will follow you to a new one.  THAT is security”.

You can learn how to get leads from the best tools out there… you can learn how to convert them into sales… you can grow a down-line to be huge and STILL fail.  That’s sobering. I am finding that if you invest in people… people will be with you if and WHEN things go wrong with your MLM company of choice.

Facebook Social Marketing Tips

Ever feel like you were going to sit down at a friendly cup of tea or coffee only to find out that your guest was a kind of vulture in disguise  and only wanted your friendship for business reasons?  That’s how a lot of network marketers are being perceived on Facebook.  Don’t let it happen to you!

You’ll notice it every time you accept a friend and the next thing you know you get constant advertisements on your wall or emails promoting their opportunity.  I’m not an expert so I will just repeat what I have learned from the “guru’s” .  Social Marketing is NOT for selling.

Even the people DOING this hate it when it’s done to them.  It’s vulture marketing.  I’ve been there and have been guilty and have corrected my mistakes.  So a little tip for those of you who are promoting your opportunity constantly to me… it doesn’t work!

Now here is a real tip that I’ve learned from my friends at Mentoring For Free:

* People do not come to blogs or social marketing venues to get sold.

* They DO come there to make friends, network and to date!

* You WILL find success in social media if you ENLIGHTEN, EDUCATE or ENTERTAIN.  This works… running ads on people’s message boards does not.

* The proper way to sell something via social marketing is to take the LONG way… make friends and add VALUE first.  You won’t have ANY problem getting FRIENDS to sign up for your product.

This is not the popular answer but it’s something that I have learned.  If you want to post ad’s then go run Pay Per Click ad’s.  If you want to do it fast then do it on a Safe List or Traffic Exchange, but if you want people to LIKE YOU then STOP POSTING AD’s ON YOUR FRIENDS WALL!  (nice tone added)   :-D

nicksmall2In the last 11 months of my (not so) extensive history in online MLM I have come to ask myself these questions:

- Is it smart to have everyone on my team create their own info product?

- Is this duplicable or do I need a better system for people to follow?

I guess that the reason that I asked these questions was that over a short period of time I was exposed to highly successful “recruiters” and noticed something disturbing.  I learned that people are NOT TRULY able to copy the success of the “power sponsor” who got them into the business.  I witnessed this first hand.

All the talk today by the top leaders and teachers about how to GET LEADS and guess what?  THAT’S ALL THEY ARE DOING… GETTING LEADS (it’s direct sales disquised at network marketing in my opinion).

I did some checking and discovered that many of these leaders have NEVER built a true down-line, only got leads and sold info products.
How am I ever supposed to retire off of that?  Invest the earnings in mutual funds?

I think I know where all of this is going… In the near future I bet that we will see some positive an negative things:

1. Most will find that they are good at getting leads and recruiting but will someday realize that their efforts are not being duplicated using this method of info creation.  They will decide they are in it for themselves instead of building a team and keep direct marketing to people.  This can be done both unethically or ethically.

2. Many (multitudes) will not be able to SUCCESSFULLY use their own info product and will either leave the industry or find a team to be a part of that allows them to use the team product to promote themselves. (this is tricky because many team promotional products end up promoting the creator of the product instead of the individual team member)

3. Hopefully some teams will be formed where you will see large numbers of people using that info product that selflessly promotes the system and not individualistic schemes of direct marketing.  The system is the most important thing.  People are not duplicable, systems are.  Systems that promote individual product creation will fail the team as a whole.

Over the past 11 months I’ve worked 50+ hours a week on following the worlds leading teachers and network marketers.  It’s cost me a LOT to figure this out.

My opinion of Mentoring For Free Program

mfflogo If you are looking to genuinely build a down-line in MLM, then you need a system that is duplicable.  My experience with a lot of the online systems is that they offer great information but they are NOT duplicable.  My opinion is that I am very glad that I have found it, it works for me.

I have found that if you are going to generate a real down-line of successful business builders then the people that you are recruiting must be able to copy a simple plan and plug THEIR people into it too.  The problem with the programs that I’ve tried to use in the past is that they made the individual a sort of “stand alone” entrepreneur through the creation of an info product that is generally geared towards that one individual.  It didn’t work for me.  Well let me correct myself… it would have worked for me but it wouldn’t work for my down-line.  I was not duplicable but a SYSTEM is.  You simply need to be provided with a system that EVERYBODY can use.

There is a lot that I can say but let me just highlight some of the components of a good system: (all of which MFF offers)

* Must have easily accessible generic training to show everyone how to market and attract leads, easily and consistently in any MLM business.

* Must MAJOR on showing people how to make the phone calls and do consultations.  My experience is that this is the biggest hang up for true duplication.  MFF offers live leads calls Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays where they take you by the hand and help you call your leads.  I personally didn’t need the help because of my personality but I can tell you that my “yellow” or “meloncholy” personalities did need it.

* Must have a “self help” priority. If you have heard the saying “Network Marketing doesn’t just change your pocket book, it changes YOU” then you know what I am talking about.  MFF hosts a call called “30 day Mental Cleanse” every Wed at 3 and 8 est.  It’s free and it helps the business builder to stop self sabotaging their success.  How many people have you tried to help that totally had the wrong mentality?  This aspect of a system will help THOSE people to be truly successful.  ( I was a “those people” :)

* Must offer individual help for people to “find their way” in marketing.  Mentors and coaches must offer help that gives real answers.  Everyone has their own marketing “recipe” and everyone must be helped so that they can find what works for them.

* Must offer a simple way to follow up and follow through with leads.  I recently tried a lead follow up software that was excellent BUT it was TOO hard to learn!  If it took me 40 hours to learn how to set it up how will it work for the newbie?  It won’t.  It’s got to be simple.  MFF provides that simple tool, it’s simple and it works.

Low Budget Marketing for Online MLM leads

Coin JarIt IS possible to build your Network Marketing business on a shoestring budget.  In fact you need to be able to show people how to do it with little or no budget because the average Network Marketer doesn’t have a business background.  One thing that I hear on the other end of the phone constantly is “I don’t have any money”.

So you must learn to work with that REALITY.  Your training system MUST show people how to generate leads that convert into product users or business builders for little or no cost.  You need to show people how to generate leads with little or no money to guarantee everyone’s success.  This is VERY doable for you.

Don’t get me wrong… budgets are important but in this industry… the majority will not do it.  I work with brilliant people who have not had any background in business, yet they grow and change and learn how to do it successfully.  To get them started you must show them the FREE way to do it.

There are people that make a really good income and are spending less that $30 a month on total advertising!

Here is my advice on how to market your business very inexpensively:

  • Get free and valuable advice from blogs. Got to Google and search “network marketing + blogs”. Enter it in just as I have it written. You will get a huge list of blogs. Subscribe to at least a dozen of them and have incoming information. You will want to understand topics like (blogs, generating leads, blog seo, social marketing, etc).
  • Learn how Social marketing works through platforms like Facebook or Linkedin. Again, you can find blogs written by people that use it successfully and want to give you value by giving you incredible insight!
  • Check here before you buy an info product to see if the same teaching is available free first. Use Mentoring For Free to learn how to generate leads for ANY company. They have an amazing free training sight that includes hundreds of audios and videos. They can teach you all of the above plus more. Pretty much anything that you need is available there for free, so check on there audio sight before you buy any tools or teachings… it just might be free there. (contact me and I can send you the url to the audio files)
  • Build a free Word Press blog. Make sure that you host it yourself. You need to host it yourself to make sure that you own your info and that it doesn’t someday disappear! I use Hostgator because they have very simple (free) videos on how to set it up for self-hosting. Buy the “baby” package. For about $10 a month you will have all the web space you will probably ever need for several blogs or different projects you will learn to make.
  • Listen to the audio file called 11 ways to generate traffic. This is also a free teaching that will help you to decide what your unique “recipe” is. I usually help people to pick 3-5 of the 11 methods according to their personality type. Don’t start a marketing plan that your personality hates to execute on a regular basis!
  • Beware of “repackaged” information products. Many people today are simply selling the same info that others have given away. The info is good but why pay for it? The person selling the info is usually telling you how to do something that they have never actually done (such as build a REAL down-line of successful people)… just a word to the wise.
